March with NSCC at Pride

People march in a Pride parade holding rainbow flags and a sign that reads “There’s a place for you at NSCC.”

June is Pride Month – a time to celebrate, reflect and take action. Pride Month is not only a celebration of identity and progress, but a reminder of the importance of active allyship in the face of growing hostility and discrimination.

This is a time to celebrate the courage, resilience and joy of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. It’s also a moment that calls us to be honest: the rights, dignity and safety of queer people are being actively challenged – in legislation and in everyday spaces. Progress is not guaranteed and it has to be chosen – again and again, by each of us. That choice is what allyship looks like in practise.

Take action, this month and beyond

  • Speak out: If you hear a harmful comment or witness someone being excluded or made to feel unwelcome, say something or let someone know if you don’t feel that you can, in the moment. Speaking up is one of the most powerful things we can do. A simple acknowledgement is enough to shift the moment.
  • Check in with one another: Active allyship doesn't end when the moment does. Following up with someone after they've experienced exclusion or harm – a check-in or a gesture of support – builds the sustained culture of safety and belonging we all deserve.
  • Celebrate one another: Pride is also a time to celebrate. Create space for expression and connection and uplift the colleagues and classmates around you.

Join NSCC at a Pride Parade

This summer, the College will march in Pride parades across the province. Pride parades are a time to come together as a community to celebrate and advocate for genuine inclusion. Students, employees, alumni, and their family and friends are encouraged to join us and show their support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Stay tuned for more parade events in addition to the following:

** Please note that we will be participating as a marching group this year rather than using a float. We know this change impacts accessibility for some participants, and we want to acknowledge the impact and disappointment this may cause. Halifax Pride offers accessible parade viewing options and many accessibility features to allow for a full experience for all our community members. Your participation matters to us as both as a marcher and a viewer.

Find us at the Halifax Pride Parade

To join us during the parade, please meet at spot C20 (NSCC's parade spot) at 11 am on Saturday, July 18 so we can all march together. Our parade spot is located on Cogswell Street, between Robie Street and North Park Street. The march is expected to take place for 1 hour from 12 to 1 pm. Parade volunteers will be able to direct you to our parade spot upon arrival. Please note, parking is not available on site.

More parade details will be added as they’re confirmed.
