Nominations of living alumni of Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) or its predecessor schools can be submitted by anyone, excluding employees of the NSCC Foundation and Alumni Relations department. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
Recipients must agree to be promoted and profiled as award recipients. This includes, but is not limited to, approving a short bio (2 to 3 sentences), submitting an appropriate photo, and participating in an interview with the Alumni Relations team so their story can be shared publicly. Recipients must also agree to have photos taken during the Alumni Awards Reception.
Nominations will be accepted year-round. The deadline for consideration for the 2027 awards is April 16, 2027, at 11:59 p.m.
Nominations may be carried over for up to two additional years for consideration. Nominators are responsible for providing any new information for the following years, as needed.
If no nominations are received and there are no nominations from previous years, the NSCC Alumni Relations staff may nominate a recipient.
The NSCC Alumni Relations team will review nominations to ensure eligibility requirements are met and will provide a final list of nominees to the Alumni Awards Selection Committee. Award recipients are selected by the committee.
Committee members are appointed annually by the NSCC Alumni Relations team. Efforts will be made to ensure diverse perspectives are represented, and members must disclose any conflicts of interest.
Many factors are considered when selecting award recipients. All nominations are received and reviewed by Alumni Relations staff to confirm award requirements are met. The Alumni Awards Selection Committee will discuss and select the recipients, taking all criteria under consideration.
Award recipients and their nominators will be notified by the end of June via email from the NSCC Alumni Relations Office (). If a selected nominee declines the award, it will be presented to the nominee with the next highest number of votes.
Recipients will be recognized on the Alumni Relations website, social media channels, and in printed materials (such as award promotions and reports). They are also expected to attend the Alumni Awards Reception, where they will be presented with their award and invited to deliver an acceptance speech.
The College reserves the right to revoke the award should future circumstances arise that could unfavourably impact the reputation and image of Nova Scotia Community College.
