William Masila Kithiia's Story

Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia, is a vibrant coastal city perched on one of the world’s largest natural harbours. The downtown core is lively, with waterfront boardwalks, seafood restaurants, and cultural landmarks like the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. The residents are friendly and always willing to assist whenever you get lost, which used to happen quite often. The city is rich in culture and history. One of my most memorable experiences was at the city's citadel. The star-shaped fortress has watched over the harbour since the 18th century. I was able to witness the daily firing of the cannon at noon. It was a blast!

Throughout my two-week stay, we visited two solar PV sites, one at the NSCC Ivany campus and the other at the Halifax Transit Headquarters. I experienced firsthand how renewable energy has become a solution to the energy crisis. The Halifax municipality has harnessed solar energy to charge its electric buses. This is not only innovative but also a significant step towards reducing the city's carbon footprint.

Participating in this program gave me a renewed sense of global perspective and reminded me that learning happens best when it’s shared. I return to KCNP not just with knowledge but with new experiences and inspiration to pass on to my colleagues and trainees. I am looking forward to future collaborations in the field of solar energy. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to NSCC International for the opportunity to travel, learn, and connect. (Asante Sana!)
