Tools and technology

Studying Online

We're here to support your learning experience, starting with these tips to help you prepare for your program.

Ensure you have the technology you need

You need access to high-speed internet and a computer that meets your program’s technology requirements.

Explore tools and technology

You'll use a variety of online tools and technology while learning with us, including Office 365 and your NSCC email account. Learn more about these tools and how to access them.

Get to know Brightspace

Brightspace is the online learning system where you will access class resources and participate in discussions with your classmates. Learn how to use Brightspace.

Be prepared to work independently

Participating in online classes is different from in-class learning. Some of our program delivery formats require you to get comfortable with working independently online. Learn more about our 2021-22 program delivery formats.

Buy your books

You can purchase course materials online for delivery or pick-up at any campus bookstore location. Bookstores hours may be limited due to COVID-19, and hours of operation are subject to change. Order textbooks and view bookstore hours.

Expect to collaborate

You'll work with classmates online, collaborating on documents, projects or as part of a study group. Your classes may include real-time video conferencing where you will use Microsoft Teams to talk with classmates.

You have an Advisor

By now, you’ve likely already connected with your Student Services Advisor. Your Advisor knows your program, can help you understand the expectations of learning online and can help answer your questions. Not sure who your Advisor is? You can contact us to find out.

Visit the NSCC Libraries and Learning Commons website

NSCC Libraries provide a vast selection of online resources and services. Friendly library staff at your campus provide help with research, loan laptops and answer questions in person or through our online Library Help Desk.

Explore our learning supports

We offer a number of learning supports to help you, including an online Writing Centre, tutoring services and more.

Technology support is available

Once you’ve registered for a course, tech support is available. If you need help using Brightspace or other online tools, you can submit a ticket to the Technology Service Desk.
