July Updates

July is setting the tone for summer with great weather and celebrations. In this issue, learn about alumni resources and offerings including ongoing education for Social Services grads, great prizes for those who take the Grad Survey (class of 2021), and how to join NSCC in the upcoming Sydney Pride Parade. Plus, other updates like alum Juliet Mawusi, who is one of five finalists in an upcoming documentary contest.

After a two-year absence, Pride festivals returned to in-person events across the province and our NSCC community showed up! Big thanks to everyone who came out to show their pride with our NSCC crew in the Truro, Annapolis Royal and Halifax Pride Parades. You can also join our NSCC crew in the Sydney Pride Parade on August 6! The lineup begins at 10:30 am in front of the New Dawn Centre on George Street and the parade starts at noon. Please and include your t-shirt size.

As recent NSCC graduates who’ve spent the last year embarking on a new chapter in life, from further schooling to working in industry, your input is valuable to the College. This month, you’ll be invited by our research partner, Narrative Research, to participate in the 2022 NSCC Graduate Survey through email, phone, or text. To thank you for participating, you’ll be entered to win great prizes, including six bi-weekly cash draws for $100 and a grand prize – your choice of a Dyson Animal Vacuum OR Yeti cooler and tumbler pack (approx. value $600). This program offers experiential learning, theoretical training and applied approached to understand the social world. Are you returning to NSCC for another program? Have a child or grandchild planning to study at NSCC? The Alumni Legacy Award is a $1,000 entrance award given annually to first-year students at each of our 14 campuses. Please ensure your alumni connection is registered with the alumni office, which can be done through the NSCC Alumni Connection Form. To apply, complete the required online forms in the award system – make sure to select ‘Yes’ when asked if you’re an NSCC alumni or child/grandchild of an NSCC graduate. Huge congratulations to Juliet Mawusi (Radio Television Journalism ’21), who was recently featured by REALSCREEN as one of the five finalists competing in the Launch Documentary Development and Pitch Contest at the Lunenburg Documentary Festival on Sept. 24!
