Sara Johnson's Story

Sara Johnson in EY Cayman Hedge Fund Workshop – April 25, 2025
I acquired numerous skills during my experience in the Cayman Islands that will aid me in advancing my education and career goals. I had the opportunity to practice my networking and public speaking skills, as well as to further my education and deepen my knowledge related to investing and accounting. Not only was I granted the opportunity to expand on these skills and education, but to do it in a leading global financial hub was such a unique and informative experience. Learning about Hedge Fund investing and attending presentations at renowned firms was an incredible educational experience.

We also attended lectures and presentations at the University College of the Cayman Islands, hosted by many educated and established individuals within the UCCI School of Business and the industry. Studying at UCCI, with UCCI students enrolled in this Hedge Fund investment course, was also a great experience. This exchange program opened my eyes to a broad array of opportunities and careers that can be pursued by studying financial services and accounting, which I was not aware of prior to the exchange. It was truly an amazing experience that taught me so much, helping me grow as a student and professional. I could not recommend it enough for anyone considering attending this exchange.

This opportunity has changed me personally and professionally in many aspects, such as strengthening my networking and communication skills. It gave me insight into many study and career directions that I am now interested in potentially pursuing. The opportunity to tour renowned firms and meet the professionals employed within them was also very encouraging. Making me feel much more prepared, capable and inspired as a student, who will be entering new industries and career paths. This exchange program helped me build professional confidence and connections.

I was surprised that the Cayman Islands, although located in the Caribbean, felt very similar to Nova Scotia. I found many more Canadians residing there than I had originally anticipated. To my surprise, they even had a Tim Hortons!
