Mason Bishop's Story

Students collaborate in a podcast studio, engaging in media production with microphones, headphones, and audio equipment.
Being my first time in Europe, I made sure to take in the BIDS program of Digitalization, but also the culture of the country, as well as the continent, from all the other students I had the opportunity to travel with. Coming in on day one, I wasn't sure what to expect and was immediately blown away by the beautiful scenery (seen in some of the photos). While I was gone, I tried to compare as many differences between away and home with the looks of the environment, but also the culture, with things such as food and people. The first two things that caught me off guard were how flat the land is, as well as how there were close to no potholes and cracks in the road.  Along with that, another part of the Netherlands and a main portion of Western Europe had dietary differences. The one piece that was a bit of culture shock for me was how much bread was eaten for almost every meal and every lunch.

When it came to the program itself, the BIDS program at the Aventus college taught me about all the possibilities of digitalization that can be enveloped into jobs all over the world. One of the first experiences that caught my eye was the drone flying experience.

Personally, before this trip, I thought of drones as just for entertainment, with not many other purposes. But this program showed me all the different technical uses for drones, such as field scanning, which they showed in the presentation. Finally, the best part of the whole trip was all the amazing people I was able to meet creating connections all over the world. What you can see in one of the pictures was one of the activities where a group of us created a podcast to present to our class. For any students looking at these programs, I would absolutely recommend these international experiences and cannot wait to hopefully travel abroad again.
