Charlee Orde's Story

During my time in the Blue Economy Tourism program in Grenada, I had the chance to meet some fantastic people, learn about their culture, and share stories with the local students. Talking with them helped me realize how much we have in common, especially when it comes to how we use tourism around our waters. One example was fishing tours. Many locals take tourists fishing and show them how they make a living from it. It reminded me of similar things we do back home.

Coming back from this incredible journey, I feel forever grateful to have been a part of the program. It really pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to fully immerse myself in their culture, trying new foods, learning what they mean to people, and joining in on all the activities they had planned. One of the coolest experiences was snorkelling to see the underwater sculptures. It’s honestly one of the most amazing things I’ve ever done, and it made me think that having something like that here in Nova Scotia could be a great way to bring in more tourists.

I’ve always dreamed of doing something like this, but was too scared to take that first step outside my comfort zone. This program showed me how much you can learn about yourself and others when you take that leap. By fully immersing myself in the experience, I gained valuable insights about who I'm, what I’m capable of, and how I can apply this knowledge in the future.
