Project/Initiative
The objective of this Caribbean Development Bank funded consultancy was to develop a Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) system for St. Vincent and the Grenadines that will respond to the needs of local employers and the larger economy. At the same time, the new system will need to ensure that the assessment and recognition processes meet national and regional standards.
The National Qualifications Department (NQD)/Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA) has identified the development of a PLAR system as an integral component of an overarching Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) System for St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Services provided
- Review of current competency standards for a number of occupations
- Review of current PLAR systems in other CARICOM countries
- Design a PLAR system for demonstrating the skills, knowledge and competencies of experienced workers in the various categories, benchmarking these competencies against the competencies required for certification
- Develop detailed guidelines for managing and operating the PLAR system.
