Project/Initiative

The Government of The Bahamas is committed to transforming its energy sector and reducing the country’s energy expenditures and reliance on imported fossil fuels and recognizing renewable energy (RE) as a powerful, tool to achieve these goals.

The successful implementation of such a plan, however, is dependent on the availability of qualified professionals with adequate skills levels related to the generation and distribution of RE. Bahamas Technical Vocational Institute (BTVI) has been identified as the primary training provider in support of the transition of the Bahamas to a more energy sustainable future.  

With support from the Inter-American Development Bank and the Prime Minister’s Office, BTVI aims to develop and implement several activities related to solar PV systems including three short courses for use in capacity building / training activities for BTVI instructors as well as for current and aspiring professionals in this area.

In addition, awareness raising workshops for local high school students and teachers are also planned.

Services provided

  • Develop the work plan and conduct a diagnostic assessment;
  • Developed learning materials for three short courses;

  • Develop and facilitate teacher training and professional development activities
  • Developed learning materials for a one-week workshop for high school teachers and student on the use of PV generation systems to raise awareness of education and career options in this area.

Results achieved

Completed the inception stage and implemented project activities.
