Applications are invited for the following position:

AREA: Clinical Services

CLASSIFICATION: BEHAVIOURAL INTERVENTIONIST – 1 PFT (75.00 Hrs biweekly)

POSITION SCOPE: Responsible to the Director of Clinical Services and the Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), the Behavioural Interventionist works with KRRC’s interdisciplinary teams to address behaviours of concern among clients through consultation, careful assessment, the implementation of applied behaviour analysis, the development of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans, and other related strategies and interventions, including ones aimed at skill development. The goals and objectives for this role are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre (KRRC) and promote the empowerment of clients and respect for their autonomy as persons.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·Provide consultation on a referral basis to KRRC’s Community Options Program (youth and adult homes) and as part of the Cambridge Community Outreach Group (CCOG) which serves the Western Region of Nova Scotia.

·Provide occasional coverage for KRRC’s other Behavioral Interventionist(s).

·Collaborate with other members of interdisciplinary teams to assess clients, and design, implement, monitor, and/or modify behavioural interventions through the application of Positive Behaviour Support principles, applied behaviour analysis, and ethical values, and evaluate client progress through data collection and interpretation.

·Create individualized PBS plans and support the development of Individual Program Plans (IPPs). ·Lead the implementation of effective strategies to decrease clients’ behaviours of concern, increase their pro-social behaviours, and improve their quality of life, with the goal of also achieving a reduction in the risk of injury, the use of restrictive procedures, and the requirement for extra staffing.

·Contribute to the creation of individualized tools (e.g., visual schedules, ‘social stories’) required by clients.

·Promote the development of coping strategies and skills among clients, particularly in the case of individuals transitioning from facility-based living to community-based living.

·Provide information and education regarding PBS and related topics.

·Engage in the promotion, practice, and modelling of PBS strategies and approaches.

·Provide coaching to KRRC staff in the use of PBS and evidence-based support strategies.

·Demonstrate skill in the use of Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and Low Arousal approaches.

·Meet regularly with the Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) to review client progress and discuss issues/incidents that could impact the effective provision of behavioural supports.

·Participate in the on-going evaluation of PBS as it applies to individual clients, teams, and the organization.

·Participate in KRRC committees, as appropriate to role.

·Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Note: The successful candidate will work out of offices attached to one of KRRC’s Small Option homes north of Berwick.

Qualifications

Graduate Certificate in Behavioural Interventions from Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) or a comparable course from another accredited college. Undergraduate degree in the Social Sciences. Practical experience in the application of the skills acquired through the above. Experience in a residential setting, with interdisciplinary teams, and/or in a consultation role considered assets
