Safe and Inclusive Workplaces

Free course

This course is part of a training initiative to provide workers with new skills needed to support a clean economy. It is fully funded by Canadian Colleges for a Resilient Recovery (C2R2) (PDF 207KB).

Overview

This course empowers employees at all levels to create a safe and inclusive workplace by addressing biases, promoting inclusive communication, implementing diversity policies, resolving conflicts and tracking progress through key performance indicators. You learn to:

  • Recognize personal beliefs and biases and their influence in the workplace.
  • Identify language used in diversity and inclusion policies and regulations.
  • Apply practices consistent with diversity and inclusion policy and health and safety regulations.
  • Use communication techniques to promote a welcoming and inclusive workplace.
  • Apply strategies to diffuse tensions and respond to inappropriate and non-inclusive behaviour, language and interactions.
  • Use conflict resolution techniques to promote a welcoming and inclusive workplace as both an active participant in conflict and as a bystander.
  • Apply conflict management approaches that incorporate social justice principles to encourage a welcoming and inclusive workplace.
  • Apply organizational systems and processes to influence the advancement of a representative and inclusive workplace.
  • Use key performance indicators to track organizational progress toward equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility metrics.

Student supports

Our student supports and services will help you get the most out of your experiences while learning with us. We have support staff to guide you.

In addition to the program being fully funded, there are student support funds available including urgent aid and disability support funds.

Admission requirements

Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have been granted refugee status in Canada ages 18+.
