Social Entrepreneurship Project in Vietnam - Amber Luayo's Story

Mannequins representing a performance

I am Amber, a professional photography student who is about to enter my 2nd year. Thanks to NSCC International, I am having an amazing trip to Vietnam.

Since I am originally from China, I figured there are a lot of cultural similarities between Vietnam and China. I love to see how Asian culture are diverse but also influence each other.

During my trip, it is my first-time hearing about Khmer people.

Interestingly, there are a lot of misunderstandings and miscommunications between majority groups and minority groups in Vietnam, which is caused by historical issues.

Along with the trip, I got the chance to know more about Khmer culture, including religion, wardrobe, musical instruments. Even though there are people out there who are afraid of Khmer culture since they don’t really get the chance to know more about them, Tra Vinh University students seem to be more open-minded and embrace the minority group.

I love to be with the TVU students, who gave us directions and helped us in different aspects, showing their hospitality and warmth. I will do the same if they come to visit Halifax or my hometown!
