Webinar: Conserving working forests through carbon offset sales
Date: Mar. 09, 2026
Supporting long-term conservation while keeping forests actively managed is an increasing priority across Canada. In this session of Webinar Wednesdays, Shayla Nickerson, Stewardship Lead at the Nova Scotia Working Woodlands Trust, discussed how carbon offset sales can be used as a practical financing tool to help achieve both goals.
Shayla shared how the Trust is developing a carbon project designed to support the permanent protection of working forests in Nova Scotia. She explained how carbon revenue can be integrated with ecological forestry practices to maintain forest productivity while safeguarding environmental values.
The session also explored how carbon financing can strengthen the financial and stewardship capacity of land trusts and provide landowners with confidence that forest values and long-term commitments will be upheld.
As forest carbon markets continue to evolve, practical models that connect conservation goals with sustainable financing are becoming increasingly important.
