The Position:

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Learning and Development Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing learning and development programs as well as a Learning Management System within the organization. The primary goal is to enhance the knowledge, skills, and performance of employees, ultimately contributing to Mara's overall success. The successful candidate will actively search, design, and implement effective methods to educate as well as enhance and recognize performance. This role will work closely with all aspects of the organization to assess and understand training and development needs and collaboratively develop and implement meaningful solutions.    

Job Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Training and Facilitation: Designing, delivering, and facilitating effective training programs and workshops, ensuring that learning objectives are met and engaging participants in the learning process.
  • Needs Assessment: Assessing the learning and development needs of individuals, teams, and the organization, and developing strategies and programs to address those needs.
  • Program Design and Development: Creating comprehensive and impactful learning programs, including curriculum design, content development, and selecting appropriate learning methodologies and technologies.
  • Learning Evaluation and Measurement: Implementing methods to evaluate the effectiveness of learning initiatives, collecting feedback, and measuring the impact on individual and organizational performance.
  • Talent Development: Identifying and nurturing talent within the organization through collaboration on development plans and implementing strategies to support the growth and career progression of employees.
  • Change Management: Supporting organizational change initiatives by designing and implementing learning and development interventions that help individuals and teams adapt to new processes, systems, or roles.
  • Stakeholder Management: Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including senior leaders, managers, and employees, to understand their needs, gain support, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Continuous Learning and Innovation: Staying up to date with emerging trends and best practices in learning and development, continuously improving personal and professional skills, and driving innovation in learning strategies and methodologies

    Qualifications

    Required Skills & Experience:

    • Minimum post-secondary education in Learning Management, Instructional Design, or Human Resources (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
    • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience with the full learning cycle including developing and delivering creative and comprehensive training programs, ideally for technical or scientific organizations.
    • 2-3 years’ change management experience.
    • Experience with configuring and administering a Learning Management System (LMS).
    • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner at all levels of the organization.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and/or team members with different professional and technical backgrounds.
    • Able to actively listen to feedback to improve existing and new training programs.
    • Critical thinker with innovative problem-solving skills.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Highly computer literate with proficiency in MS office and other related business and communication tools.

    Desired skills and experience:

    • Education, professional development experiences, and/or adult learning certification would be considered an asset.
    • 2-3 years’ experience with talent & succession planning 
    • Learning & Development experience in the Life Sciences industry.
