We believe that the island has an amazing capacity to teach people about our world and we seek ways to provide a variety of learning opportunities.

Position Details:

The Special Events Co-ordinator will work closely with the Event Planning Committee to prepare for the next Sable Island Conference to be held in Nova Scotia in October 2023. Specific activities will include reviewing submissions from potential presenters, assisting in the selection of presenters, contacting potential sponsors, designing an event program, developing a social media campaign, and assisting with attendee registration activities.   The two-day conference will feature a series of curated presentations about Sable Island. Contributors will be selected using an open call for abstracts/presenters. Topics are expected to include science, cultural history, tourism, indigenous connections, environment, art, and park management. The future of Sable Island rests in the hands of our youth, and young researchers and recent graduates will be strongly encouraged to participate as both presenters and attendees.   The Special Events Co-ordinator will work mostly independently between regular meetings of the Event Planning Committee. Much of the work can be done remotely using regular check-ins with the supervisor, a volunteer board member of Friends of Sable Island.
