About the Position

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education is accepting applications for the Educational Program Assistant Substitute List for the 2022-2023 school year.

The Educational Program Assistant supports the teaching/learning of students with special needs by providing support in the areas of personal care, behaviour management and instructional program under the direction of the supervising teacher and student planning team. Consistent with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Halifax Regional Centre for Education policies, the Educational Program Assistant will work within an established framework to provide support services that maximize student learning experiences. Working collaboratively within a team the Educational Program Assistant reports directly to the Principal of the School.

Please note CUPE Local 5047 is currently on strike and casual employees may need to cross picket lines.

Substitute employees are eligible to accept day-to-day and short term assignments to provide support to schools when permanent employees are away. HRCE has 135 school locations so, depending on where you live, there is potential for steady and frequent substitute work.

Qualifications

Applicants MUST meet the following criteria:

High School Completion Certificate or equivalent;

Valid Emergency First Aid CPR/AED Level C Certificate;

Experience working with children;

Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move quickly;

Trained or Willing to be trained in Toileting/Personal Care

Assets:

Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training

A related diploma or certificate from a recognized post secondary institution, including a formal practicum placement will be considered an asset.
