About the Position

Summary: We are currently seeking to fill a Compactor Operator / Spare Vapour Recompression Evaporation Plant Operator which is described below.

This is a Permanent full-time position located in Amherst, NS.   Amherst is a community of 10,000 situated on the Nova Scotia/New Brunswick border, about two hours from Halifax, NS and less than an hour’s drive from Moncton, NB. The plant employs 45 and has an annual capacity of 127,000 tons of food grade and water-softening salt serving customers throughout the Maritimes, Quebec and the Eastern United States.    

Essential Job Functions: Include but are not limited to the following: (Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time.)  

Bin Control/Compactor Operator 

Responsible for all duties pertaining to the loading of bulk trucks and hopper cars.

Responsible for all duties pertaining to the compacting, crushing and conveying of all salt products to various production lines.

Ensure the filling out of all job worksheets is complete for each shift.

Responsible for the taking of sample(s) where applicable.

Responsible for cleaning areas within the Bin Control area.

Responsible for magnet checks during morning salt inventories on loading days.

Responsible for #2 & #3 screen checks Sunday, Wednesday & Friday.

Responsible filling of YPS & SHMP tanks & filling out logbooks.

Responsible for monthly cleaning of compaction system monthly.

Responsible for taking bin inventory twice daily  

VREP Operator 

Operation of Vapour Recompression Evaporation Plant.

Operation of Natural Gas Boiler.

Operate other Auxiliary equipment (Pumps, Conveyors, Heat Exchangers, Dryers, etc.,).

Cleaning duties as required.

Dust collection duties.

Support Maintenance activity as required.

Arrange for maintenance and call in as required.

Must be able to work at heights and confined spaces.

Performing quality checks.

Must be able to work in hot temperatures and climb steps as required.

12 hour Shift work

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

The successful candidate will hold an inter-provincial 4th class power engineer’s license with the Nova Scotia Dept. of Labour and be required to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a process-related industry, be knowledgeable about process equipment and control systems, and be flexible to different task assignments.

Qualifications

Minimum 4th Class Power engineering certification

Safety certification and or courses.

Experience with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel.
