About the Position

You are as passionate about the role of food in connection as we are. We believe in the magic possible when people come together around food on sacred land. We have communities from diverse faith, race and gendered backgrounds. Offering culturally and dietary welcoming food is part of our commitment to equity.

We are looking for a creative cook and a cooperative student in the culinary management program who believes in the connections between radical hospitality, food and community. You are eager to put your skills into place in a team and an organization that aligns with your values.

We'd like someone who loves to cook and experiment and has the following key traits and competencies:

- Creativity, good judgement, humor and communication

- Skills cooking various types of meals including vegan, dairy-free and gluten free

- Kitchen skills, including inventory tracking and limited spoilage

- Interest in community gardens and food

- Experience working in a commercial kitchen or enrolment in a culinary program an asset

We are a small staff of eight people including 3 people in the kitchen. We aim to be a place where people love to come to work and work and work as a team.

- A willingness to both honor and co-create a team and organizational culture of professionalism, ease, good communication and fun is essential. 

- Ability to hold down the kitchen, and with another prep cook prepare meals for up to 25 people at a time.

- Co-create and co-host a program “Tracing our Roots through Food” where diverse members of our community share their favorite family recipes and stories

- Prepare traditional and vegetarian meals, and accommodate those with dietary restrictions and cultural differences.

Responsible for your work area and other spaces around you

Work with the grounds staff to grow our community gardens

Heavy, deep, Mindful and meaningful programs require hearty nourishment to feed the soul.
