Organization

Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax is the largest military base in Canada, serving a workforce of approximately 7,500 military and 2,300 civilian members, and aims to be the most progressive and modern Defense Team in the country, essential to operational success and integral to the community.

CFB Halifax provides materiel, administrative, logistical and operational support to Joint Task Force Atlantic, Maritime Forces Atlantic and lodger units. The award-winning Trident Military Newspaper has been bringing the latest in East Coast Royal Canadian Navy news to military personnel in the Halifax area since 1966. Its pages are filled with current news items as they relate to the Canadian Armed Forces' domestic and deployed operations, along with sports, recreation, and health-related articles geared toward military members, veterans and their families.

Trident became a digital-only publication in 2020, and continues to be read widely within CFB Halifax, 12 Wing Shearwater and the broad local defense community.   Job Description  

Students working with Trident Newspaper team will be asked to work on a variety of projects that are included in the team's overall communications strategy. Tasks to include:

·        Researching or analyzing topics or current issues and synthesizing information to produce articles, media releases, public service announcements, backgrounders, promotional materials, etc.

·        Interview Military members and Members of the wider defense team, attend events on the Base to write articles on these subjects.

·        Capturing subject or event imagery using camera, phone or iPad as required

·        Work with Trident Social Media platforms, drafting and scheduling posts to promote the Trident, stories and other Military initiatives and events

·        Assist with updating the Trident WordPress website

·        Archiving and assisting with the development of new digital marketing tools for the Trident

Qualifications

  • A public relations or Journalism student
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Attention to detail

Condition of Employment

  • Reliability security clearance
  • Canadian Citizenship
