About the Position

We are currently looking for Co-op students to join our team for 4, 6, & 8 month terms starting May 2023.

Terracon Geotechnique Ltd. – an employee owned, western Canada based company, is looking for Civil and Environmental Technology students in the Leduc area.  

As a student at Terracon, you will be exposed to a variety of different tasks and responsibilities. You will gain experience in construction monitoring, QA/QC monitoring techniques, compaction testing, and field sampling. There will be opportunity to work on various projects around the city and in the laboratory. The work environment includes diverse construction projects which requires close attention to safety and excellent verbal communication skills.

FIELD TECHNICIAN/TECHNOLOGIST – CIVIL ENGINEERING POST-SECONDARY STUDENTS  

  • Grasp a wide breath of civil engineering facets such as – construction quality control monitoring, instrumentation installation and monitoring, and materials testing
  • Attain material testing techniques in a resource based professional environment
  • Gain knowledge from employees with a wealth of industry and Terracon experience
  • Acquire the opportunity to be trained and work in a laboratory setting
  • Engage in the implementation of safety controls and promotion of safety in the workplace  

 

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN/TECHNOLOGIST – ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY POST-SECONDARY STUDENTS

  • Receive samples and perform various lab testing, including CCIL Certified Aggregate, Concrete, and Asphalt while accurately following the ASTM, AASHTO, and CSA Standards procedures
  • Calibrate and complete preventative maintenance on lab equipment
  • Ensure testing is being performed safely and in a timely manner while properly documenting results
  • Receive the opportunity to be trained and work on field-based projects

Working Conditions, Schedule, and Physical Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis
  • Must have valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and 2 years’ driving experience
  • High School Diploma required
  • Must be physically able to perform field work as required
  • Successfully perform a Fit for Work and Drug and Alcohol test
  • Working outdoors in all types of weather
  • Schedule often involves 12-hour shifts

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering or Environmental Technology diploma program
  • Experience in a technical role is considered an asset
  • Eager and willing to learn all aspects of the industry
  • Flexible and a strong team player
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong ability to update documentation and maintain information
  • Ability to drive a 4x4 vehicle off road
  • Dedication and attention to safety and client site rules and regulations
