The successful applicant will provide support and supervision with the daily living activities of 3 residents, who live with severe and persistent mental illness. Working in a residential setting, staff are responsible to ensure residents have access to a variety of needs including social, recreational and spiritual as well as opportunities for engagement and growth. Staff work a variety of shifts (8am to 4 pm; 4 pm to 12 am; 12 am to 8 am) and work(dependent on need and availability) 8 hours and up per week. Typically Casual staff work 3 to 4 shifts per week but there are occasions where as many as 40 hours are available. As we operate 24 hours per day, staff are required to work on holidays and weekends.
Our work can be challenging but is also rewarding, as our goal is to work with residents in order to increase independence and self sufficiency. Residents are provided with coaching and direction in hopes of moving into their own apartment and/or opportunities that encourage them to thrive and be the best that they can be. We subscribe to a "do with" not "do for" approach.
Applicants should be professional and mature in their approach. They should have excellent boundaries and an understanding of mental illness and its effects. Kindness and compassion are a must. Staff are not required to perform personal care and we are a "no restraint" facility.
We provide a paid, one hour break per shift, although there may be occasional situations where this is not possible. Parking is on-site and is free of charge and staff are encouraged to apply for our Healthy Living Subsidy, which provides up to $100 per year towards equipment purchased to improve physical and mental health.
The successful candidate will have a Social/Human Services Diploma and a reliable vehicle. Experience working in Group Home settings would be an asset.
