About the Position

A. H. Roy & Associates Limited seeks to employ a student for the work integrated learning portion of their studies during Summer 2023. We are hiring for a Student CAD Designer in the Mechanical & Electrical Engineering fields. We prefer to have the student for their field placement (5-8 weeks) directly rolled into their cooperative education placement (12-16 weeks). Both portions will be paid. The position would begin as early as April 25, 2023, or shortly thereafter.

The student will be employed doing mechanical and electrical systems design work for new building and renovation projects throughout Nova Scotia. On the mechanical side, the work shall include performing heating and cooling load calculations and choosing appropriate equipment for the area covered. They will design ventilation, sprinkler and plumbing systems and lay out equipment in mechanical and boiler rooms under the guidance of a junior or senior mechanical engineer. On the electrical side, the work shall include designing power, lighting, communication, and auxiliary systems under the guidance of a junior or senior electrical engineer. Other tasks may include utilizing arc flash software such as EasyPower, and developing photovoltaic solar systems.

We will prioritize applicants from the following programs: Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Energy Sustainability Engineering Technology (ESET).

Wages for the position will be $18.00 per hour at 37.5 hours per week. It will be an in-person position at our office location in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will bring excellent CAD skills, particularly as related to the fields of mechanical and electrical engineering, as well as a desire to learn and improve competency.

Openness to taking initiative on projects and working independently are highly valued attributes.

It is also important to be able to listen and take direction from engineers and other staff.

The ability to work as a team player will also serve the candidate well.

Ability to prioritize work, stay on task, and complete projects under sometimes tight deadlines are all aspects of the work.

Candidates should be enrolled in a relevant program at NSCC.
