The Recreation Navigator Volunteer at ISANS is matched with a newcomer family to provide recreation and leisure support. This role is intended for a volunteer who has experience navigating the recreation systems in HRM and/or has general local knowledge about the importance of rec & leisure. Possible tasks may include: Assisting with funding applications, assisting with registration to sport/leisure programs in the community, familiarizing client with what is available in their community for recreation and leisure, practice searching online for programs of interest, ensuring family members understand all program requirements and expectations and if needed accompany the client to their first program on the bus.
Program Points: Online training session is provided, along with client handbook and volunteer tip sheet.
Suggested time commitment is a minimum of three months, meeting weekly for a couple of hours. Vulnerable record check required
-Must be 18+ years of age
-Must have lived in Nova Scotia for at least 18 months
-Good English language level (spoken and written)
-Good communication skills
-Able to communicate with low level English language clients
-General local knowledge about the importance of recreation & leisure
