About the Position

Since 1971, Merit Muffler Ltd. has been providing quality automotive repair services to all makes and models of vehicles in the Sydney area. As a member of the TECH-NET Professional program, we take the time to explain to our customers what services are required to correct existing problems and which are preventative maintenance. We make every effort to ensure top quality customer service, fair pricing, and that the customers’ vehicles are fixed to ‘the first time’.   We are currently seeking an Automotive Technician to join our team as we continue to see rapid growth and focus on creating efficient workflows that benefit our customers. We are looking for that perfect “extra set of hands” that can assist with a wide variety of tasks, from maintaining inventory and shop cleanliness to inspecting, diagnosing, and performing routine maintenance on customers’ vehicles.

Your typical day will include:

·         Inspecting, diagnosing, and performing both major and minor repairs to mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems and components to all makes and models of customers’ vehicles.

·         Review work orders and communicate with management to ensure required inventory is in stock

·         Assisting other Automotive Technicians in the shop in providing quality service

·         Assist in assessing extent of necessary repairs, and prioritizing jobs accordingly

·         Road testing vehicles when necessary

·         Utilizing a wide variety of complex tools and equipment

·         Assisting in general shop maintenance

·         Advise customers on work performed, overall vehicle condition, and future repair requirements

·         Maintain a safe work environment and utilize necessary Personal Protective Equipment

·         All other duties as assigned by Management

Our ideal candidate is looking to join a high-functioning team and make some big impact. While we value experience in the industry, we are also thrilled if we find an apprentice with a bright future! If you don’t meet the requirements listed below, but are in the process of earning the necessary credentials, we welcome you to apply and potentially discuss apprenticeship, student placements, or other general labour positions with us.

·         Completion of an Automotive Service and Repair program from an accredited college

·         Nova Scotia Certificate of Qualification (Certificate of Apprenticeship, Certificate of Proficiency, Red Seal, etc.)

·         2+ years experience working in the automotive industry (Experience other than Technician positions may be considered)

·         Must be able to work independently with limited supervision, as well as occasionally collaborate with other team members on specific tasks

·         Willing to remain current on industry trends, as well as the ever changing mechanical and electrical components used in automotive repair

·         Ability to perform the physical tasks associated with the role such as lifting and carrying heavy loads (up to 50lbs)
