About the Position

YACRO is a not-for-profit agency that is committed to empowering and supporting children and adults with a disability to achieve meaningful lives in their communities.

YACRO is currently seeking Community Residential Support Workers in the Dartmouth/Halifax/Bedford/ Sackville area for casual positions (leading to term/ permanent part time, term/permanent full time).

The ideal candidate must work collaboratively within a team by observing and reporting changes in a client's physical and mental health.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The job is to support individuals with disabilities in all aspects of their daily living which include but are not limited to: 

  • Providing support to individuals to attend medical appointments, social events, etc.;
  • Assisting with cooking, cleaning, laundry and all other household duties;
  • Assisting with personal care as needed;  
  • Providing guidance and support through behavioural challenges;
  • Support individuals with maintaining relationships with family members and friends and developing new relationships;
  • Completing daily documentation;
  • Administer medications according to procedure. 



  • High school graduate. Some college preferred.
  • Eligibility to drive our agency-owned vehicles and/or your personal vehicle to transport clients would be considered an asset.
  • A valid driver's license and current driver's abstract will be required if you become a driver.
  • (7) Provincial Core Competencies as outlined by Department of Community Services (must possess or obtain upon hire):
    • Fire and Life Safety
    • Individual Program Planning
    • Standard First Aid/CPR Level C
    • Non-Violet Crisis Intervention
    • Medication Awareness
    • Basic Principles and Practices of Personal Care
  • A belief in the equality and dignity of all people
  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities.
  • Willingness to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Personal qualities of emotional maturity, empathy and compassion.
  • Possess a strong desire to have a positive effect on people with disabilities, and a commitment to supporting and promoting their individual needs, skills, abilities and personal goals.
  • Successful applicants must provide current criminal record, vulnerable sector, and child abuse registry checks or be willing to obtain these upon hire.
