The Halifax Port Authority (HPA or the Port) is a regional economic engine, generating more than 12,400 jobs and contributing over $1.7 billion in economic impact. The world’s largest shipping lines call on the Port of Halifax, connecting the port to more than 150 countries. The current CEO of HPA will be leaving in 2019, paving the way for a new leader to take the Port through its next phase of evolution. The new CEO will lead the development and implementation of the Port’s vision and strategy and provide leadership to the Executive Team and full staff. Operating in a complex landscape, the new CEO’s mandate will be multi-faceted.
A key priority for the new CEO will be aligning numerous key stakeholders around a vision to become Canada’s East Coast Gateway. Port activities create jobs, stimulate economic activity and connect the country to international markets. At the same time, some are industrial operations located in a vibrant area of the Halifax peninsula, so managing relationships with many diverse community and stakeholder groups is vital to the Port achieving its growth objectives.
As the ideal candidate, you are fluent in English (written and verbal) and you bring a minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience successfully leading a business, ideally within the marine transportation segment. Alternatively, has related industry with a significant supply chain and related infrastructure (i.e. rail, air, forestry, mining, supply chain, logistics, or other transportation/industrial business). Ideally, you have worked with a Board of Directors and possess advanced strategic thinking, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills demonstrating high political acumen. Educational requirements: maritime studies diploma or related field are preferred.
This is a full time, permanent position located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with a salary range between $300,000 and $425,000 plus an annual 20% bonus, six weeks of vacation and a pension plan. There will also be employer-paid health and welfare benefits which include medical, dental, extended health, life insurance, and sick leave as well as a car allowance. Relocation assistance will be provided (if applicable).
