This is an opportunity targeted to a select group of specific programs of study. It is aimed at students and recent graduates who wish to gain experience and/or to build out their portfolio with a real product. This is an ideal role for a someone who is passionate about mobile apps as a career trajectory, especially someone who wants to get hands-on exposure to the React Native mobile cross-platform development framework which is growing in popularity in the industry. Please review our website at www.passionfruit.me to see if this description fits you before applying.
We are currently using React Native for the frontend and Node for the backend. We anticipate that the app will be launched by September, so the position involves taking over the existing codebase and iterating it post-launch. You will work side by side with the product manager and possibly other students to learn and grow as we push the app beyond launch to future feature updates.
Responsibilities will include bug fixing, incremental improvement, and working on new features. The applicant will need to rely extensively on self-teaching to come to grips with the technologies involved in building the app. Thus, the ability to show initiative, be a self-starter, and be self-sufficient is a must. Guidance will be provided as much as possible, so the ability to communicate and ask the right questions is also an asset. Most work will be done remotely, supplemented with regular meetings to track progress.
The company is an early-stage pre-seed startup, so the applicant must be aware that the work environment will be that of a startup, which is quite different from working in a mature corporate enterprise.
Some prior exposure to Node.js and JS frontend frameworks is a huge asset. Otherwise, the main assets a candidate will bring are:
(1) identify with the values of our company, and use it to fuel a strong sense of ownership over what you create here
(2) an unquenchable thirst to learn and improve
(3) attention to detail, setting personal standards for the highest quality of craftsmanship
(4) eagerly display initiative: consider the purpose of each part of the product in the whole and contribute suggestions to meet the evolving needs of customers
