A major source of financial assistance at NSCC is our Student Awards program, which is funded by donors, partners, and sponsors through NSCC Foundation. Here are just a few of the awards available to support students who self-identify. Please visit the specific award page for application details

Awards for African Canadian Students

Architecture49 Bursary
This bursary has been established by Architecture49 – a national leader in the integrated design to encourage more diversity within the Architecture field. It is open to students in the Architectural Engineering Technician program at Ivany Campus.

Arnold D. Johnson Sr. Award for Water Resources
This award supports Indigenous and African Nova Scotian students entering Environmental Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology at NSCC's Ivany Campus.

BMO Financial Group Award
This award has been established to support incoming students at all campuses who require financial assistance and identify as First Nations or African Nova Scotian.

Culinary Diversity Award
Created by Little Oak and The Ostrich Club, this award has been established to promote diversity within the Nova Scotia culinary industry. It is open to students enrolled in the Culinary Skills and Culinary Management Program at Akerley Campus.

Daurene Lewis Memorial Award
This award was established to support students who identify as African Nova Scotian and female. Students must demonstrate financial need and community involvement to qualify.

Devour! Hospitality Diversity Scholarship
This scholarship seeks to ensure that the next generation of the hospitality workforce better represents the diversity of Nova Scotia. It's open to students enrolled in Culinary Management, Culinary Skills and Tourism Hospitality and who represent equity-seeking groups.

Honourable Mayann E. Francis Hope & Inspiration Award
This award has been established to celebrate and recognize students enrolled and attending any program at the NSCC who, through their circumstances, provide hope and inspiration to others. It is open to all programs and campuses.

The Ian Startup Memorial Award
This award supports second year students enrolled in the Energy Sustainability Engineering Technology (ESET) program at the Annapolis Valley Campus

Irving Shipbuilding Centre of Excellence Bursary
This award supports of students interested in entering any program at NSCC related to Shipbuilding. Recipients will have the opportunity to do their work placements with Irving and upon successful graduation, Irving Shipbuilding encourages recipients to consider applying for a position at their Halifax Shipyard.

Morton Simmonds Educational Scholarship
The Morton Simmonds Educational Scholarship was created to support and encourage African Nova Scotian students enrolled in the Criminal Justice Diploma Program at NSCC.

Nick Gormley Memorial Award
This award was established in memory of NSCC alumnus, Nick Gormley. It celebrates diversity and was established to support students enrolling in the Recording Arts Program at any NSCC Campus that demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to students who identify as Indigenous, racially visible, or 2SLGBTQ+

Secunda Canada Employment Equity Bursary
This bursary supports students enrolled in the Marine Navigation Technology and Marine Engineering Technology programs at NSCC.

Sensor Technology LTD Women in Ocean Tech Award
This bursary is set up to recognize that women are significantly under-represented in the ocean industry. With the number of jobs in ocean technology increasing there's more opportunities for women to not only gain entry in the ocean industry, but to lead. It is open to students enrolled in the Oceans Technology program at Ivany Campus.

WINS Bursary
This bursary is to help those entering the fields of science, trades and technology complete their NSCC education.
