Program Overview

This program is for the person who wants a career in business. Learning from faculty who are strongly connected to the needs of the Nova Scotia business community, you get the most innovative business training to prepare you for a wide variety of careers.

In the first year, you're introduced to a broad range of business issues and subjects, like:

  • how business and organizations work
  • business basics, including communications, accounting and marketing
  • computer applications and how to use industry-leading technologies
  • career exploration in fields like accounting, finance, management, marketing, international business, information management, entrepreneurship and more

Admission Requirements

  • High School Graduation Diploma or equivalent.

Choose NSCC

  • You experience hands-on learning and real-world business environments through our on-campus business centres, simulations, project-based learning, applied learning, service learning, collaborative learning and mentorship activities.
  • You develop an awareness of the global economy, international business, corporate social responsibility and green business practices. You also develop the skills and professionalism you need to work in a business world that focuses on people organizations, strategy and leadership.
  • You learn the latest practices and technologies that employers and business owners in Nova Scotia, across Canada and around the world are looking for in their future employees and partners.
  • You may also complete your diploma while you work. Many Business Administration courses are offered through part-time studies and are delivered online so you can customize a class schedule that best fits your needs. You can also complete a Business Administration diploma completely online.
  • Continue your studies at university. This program includes courses that count towards a university degree. Find out more.
  • Industry Certifications – You can qualify for a number of industry certifications through specific courses.

Our Grads

  • Graduates are well-prepared for jobs working in businesses of all sizes and in a variety of industry sectors. Many grads are also working for government, not-for-profit organizations and co-operatives.
  • Graduates are working in a wide variety of roles, including: financial services employee, sales and service representative, sales promotions, office manager and supervisor, information manager, project manager, retail manager, management trainee, account coordinator, small business owner and many more.

Part-time Study

  • This program is available for part-time study. Depending on your concentration selection, there is the option to complete your program in-class, online or through a combination of courses delivered in-class and online.
  • Once admitted, you are referred to a campus for course selection. Some courses will also be available through Continuing Education.
  • The time to complete the program through part-time study will vary and depend on the schedule you choose and number of courses you complete each term.
  • Tuition for part-time study option is calculated on a per-course basis and is paid at the beginning of each term.

Other Info

  • There is an additional program starting in January at Kingstec Campus which provides the opportunity to complete Year 1 of the Business Administration program using a compressed schedule – January to July. This schedule enables you to start your chosen year two Concentration in the following September. Details about the schedule for this offering are provided by the campus after you receive your acceptance notification.
  • Credit Transfer, Challenge for Credit and Advanced Standing – If you have already earned credits from another college or university, those credits may be transferable to this program. Through NSCC's Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL) process, you may also be able to earn credits from your past work experience. Advanced Standing may be requested with your application form if you meet the learning outcomes for the first year or term.
  • Availability of specific courses varies from term to term and by campus. Some courses are only available in-class and not online.
  • Co-operative Education (Co-op) – This program is eligible for an optional co-op credit course. Co-op provides an opportunity for paid employment (of at least 12 weeks) in a field related to your program between your first and second year.

Concentration Options

There is no direct entry into a Business Administration concentration except through Advanced Standing. You will select your concentration through your campus after several core BA courses have been completed.

The concentrations available for study are :

International Business – Students who complete the first year of Business Administration have the option to transfer to the advanced diploma in International Business offered at Truro Campus.
