Program Overview

This program prepares you for a career as a ship's Engineering Officer in the commercial marine industry. You build on your broad-based knowledge of the engineering systems used on a modern ship, with a focus on four functions at the management level: marine engineering; electrical, electronic and control engineering; maintenance and repair; and leadership/managerial skills.

You learn the theoretical and applied principles for each function – managing the operation of propulsion plant machinery, electrical and electronic control equipment; establishing safe and effective maintenance and repair procedures; and developing effective leadership and control that ensure safe operations and care for persons on board your ship.

Funding available for women and indigenous peoples

To help meet the marine industry demand and diversify the workforce, the federal government is providing $2.5 million in bursaries for women and Indigenous peoples.

  • As a woman or Indigenous person, you may qualify for a $5,000 annual bursary for your education. View bursary details
  • As an Indigenous person, you may qualify for additional funds to cover living expenses. View bursary details

You apply for funding after you've been accepted to the program.
