Photovoltaic (PV) Panel Installation Training
Learn the techniques of installing and maintaining solar panels (photovoltaic systems).
As energy prices rise, more Nova Scotians are supplementing their traditional home systems with solar power. The Photovoltaic (PV) Panel Installation Training course, offered in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Energy and Mines, was created in response to this growing trend.
You will learn the techniques of installing and maintaining photovoltaic systems (solar panels). An official transcript from Nova Scotia Community College's Photovoltaic Installation course will be recognized as adequate training to be a part of Efficiency Nova Scotia’s Approved Solar Homes Installer list.
- Introduction to the concepts of solar electricity generation and the operation of PV panels
- Course modules include technical and safety training
- Small class sizes provide you with an opportunity to ask questions, apply your learning and share knowledge
To register for this course, you must provide proof of current safety training as part of the application process in the following:
- WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Management Information Systems) (within 3 years)
- OH&S (Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act) (within 3 years)
- Introduction to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
Course fee: $1,073 plus HST.

As part of the practical components of this course, you are required to bring your own personal protective equipment.
Note: When applying to Efficiency Nova Scotia, you will require this training course, along with other elements, such as the safety training components, solar installation experience, and references, and you must be applying as a registered business.
Note: You will not be licensed or trained on connection to, or connection of, electrical components, which is the role of a certified electrician.
