$2.5 million bursary program available to women and Indigenous peoples
The marine industry is growing and thousands of job opportunities exist right now.
To help meet this demand and diversify the workforce, the federal government, through the Oceans Protection Plan, is providing $2.5 million in bursaries for women and Indigenous peoples to pursue marine education.
Why choose a career at sea?
- Salaries start as high as $70,000 for ship's officers
- The marine industry is international, which means you can see the world while you work
- Work on a variety of ships, including ferries, cargo and research vessels
- Funding is available through 2021 to help you succeed

As a woman or Indigenous person, you may qualify for a $5,000 annual bursary for your education. View bursary details
As an Indigenous person, if you've been approved to receive this bursary, you'll be automatically considered for additional funds to cover living expenses.
