Substantial impact

Morgan Zinck knows first-hand how much of a difference gifts like the $4.6M gift to NSCC from The Joyce Foundation can make in a student’s life.

Halfway through her studies at the College, Morgan was at a point where she wasn’t sure if she could afford to continue. “I didn’t even know how I was going to make ends meet that month,” she says.

Then she received a bursary that changed everything.

“It eliminated a huge portion of stress, allowing me to focus on my school work instead of my finances,” she says.

With The Joyce Foundation’s substantial donation, the NSCC Foundation will award 140 students each year with $1,000 bursaries. The gift will also provide $500,000 in urgent-aid bursaries to students who experience unforeseen financial challenges.

Education is a steppingstone. Where you go from there, take that education and pursue your dream. Whatever it is, persistence and dedication will make it happen.

NSCC President Don Bureaux explains that The Joyce Foundation’s donation is a “game-changer” for the College and more importantly, students.

“The challenge that keeps me up at night is the barrier Nova Scotians face every single day because of a financial burden or hurdle they cannot simply overcome,” he says. “Now, more Nova Scotians than ever before will have access to the education they need to enter the workforce and improve their quality of life.”

Students attending NSCC this fall, who have financial challenges, can apply for The Joyce Foundation bursaries.
