It’s the Small Things

Our mental health and overall wellness are highly influenced by the small things we do to care for our well-being. These small things may not seem like much in the moment, but over time they can make a positive difference in building our resilience and improving our quality of life.
Think of a bank account: Small deposits can really add up over time. So, too, can our daily practices.
Here are some small things you can do to take care of you, all while practising social distancing:
- Take a lunch break
- Spend time outdoors
- Meditate for 5 minutes
- Take up a hobby
- Chat with a friend online or by phone
- Listen to a song you love
- Help others
- Spend time with a pet
- De-clutter your space
- Play a board game
- Get a little extra sleep
- Read just for fun
- Limit caffeine after 2pm
- Give someone a compliment
- Limit phone use at bedtime
- Keep a gratitude journal
- Make time for a quick workout
- Don’t participate in gossip
- Make time for “me time”
Trying to balance school, work, finances, relationships and our personal lives can feel like a lot - especially given what's happening in the world right now. As an NSCC student/employee, you have access to supports that can help:
