Cases continue to rise
May. 07, 2021 – Don Bureaux
Good afternoon everyone:
I wanted to follow up on the important COVID-19 update provided earlier today by Premier Iain Rankin and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang.
Cases continue to rise sharply, restrictions are being extended to the end of the month and new restrictions have been added. As Premier Rankin noted in the update today: “The situation we’re in right now in Nova Scotia is very serious. Our public health staff are overwhelmed and we need to get things under control. We understand that extending province-wide restrictions through May and closing our border is disruptive, but it has to be done. This is about protecting our people and our health-care system.”
It is tough news that stands in stark contrast with this beautiful spring day. I know these restrictions continue to present challenges to our students and our employees. Dr. Strang compared our current state with a marathon. While this might be the height of the pain of the race, we are near the finish line, if only we can hang in there a little bit longer. The hard work and adaptability you’ve shown through the year is tremendous, but we can’t let our guards down yet. As a College, we will continue to follow the direction of public health and adapt as needed to support everyone’s ability to safely continue with their studies and their work.
As we head into the weekend, please, stay safe and stay close to home and, to all of the moms in our community, I wish you the very best on this upcoming Mother’s Day.
