NSCC's response to COVID-19: view updates

Important academic update for February 25, 2021

Feb. 25, 2021 – Anna Burke

Good morning,

Please find included in this note some important academic updates.

Work Experience

For graduating students, all work experience courses – including clinical, internships and mandatory co-op – have been assessed and will proceed. For students not in their final year of study, your Academic Chair and/or Faculty will advise you of any changes to work experience courses.

Due to the ongoing pandemic and Public Health restrictions, you may need additional time to secure work placements. To support you with this, the deadline to complete Spring work experience courses has been extended until August 4.

Your faculty is your primary support for work placements. You can also find helpful resources available through our Career and Employment Services Hub.

Class of 2021 – Virtual Celebration

Our convocation ceremonies are always a much-anticipated celebration of academic achievement and recognition of the hard work and determination of our students. As we continue to respond to the global pandemic, the well-being of our students, their families and our campus communities remains our priority. In order to support the ability for everyone to work towards and plan this year’s celebration, we’ve made the decision to hold a virtual Convocation 2021 in October. We will provide additional information over the coming months and look forward to celebrating the Class of 2021.

International Students – Post Graduate Work Permit

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced further flexibilities to support international students. New measures will allow students to complete up to 100% of their program online from outside of Canada, while remaining eligible for the post-graduate work permit. Students requiring more information can connect with your Student Services & International Supports Advisor (login required).

Academic Year 2021-22

We are reviewing and updating our plans for operations and program delivery knowing our current environment continues to evolve, dependent on Public Health directives. We are committed to the safety and wellness of our students and employees, as well as to the quality and accessibility of our programs and services. We will share more details about our plans for the 2021-22 academic year in May.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to your wellness and academic success. We are here to support you as you work to complete your studies.

Stay safe and stay well.
