Celebrating our alum-powered makers, creators and entrepreneurs is important to us. Our annual Shop NSCC list features a variety of alumni talent, goods and services that can help you find great gifts while supporting fellow alums.
Jenna Pottie (Dental Assisting ‘06) creates the cute and quirky earrings for her business, Saltwater Grace Designs. We love the seasonal collection featuring snow globes and sugar cookies and her stud packs make great stocking stuffers.
Adam Scott’s (Business Administration ‘22) Eastern Tea Bar in Halifax is the perfect spot to curl up with a cuppa on a cold winter day. Looking for a fun new take on a holiday party? Consider the private tea tastings. Shop the site for their selection of exotic teas and accessories for the tea lover on your list.
Looking for the perfect scent to set that cozy tone at home? Look no further than Ellington & Co. by Stephanie Amon-Kenley (Business Administration ‘04). Whether it’s for yourself or a friend, there are dozens of amazing options that look as wonderful as they smell. Check out seasonal scents like Sugarplum Fairy and Hello Winter.
If your holiday shopping list includes a plant-lover, Wandering Jasmine Gardens in Truro will knock your stalks off. This retail houseplant and consignment shop is blooming with options, including a wide variety of beautiful handmade local products. The holiday season is a great time to enjoy a good meal and great atmosphere at Maritime Express Cider Co. The cidery and taproom is in a historic building in Kentville and co-owned by Genevieve Allen-Hearn (Nonprofit Leadership ‘21). Not local? Check out fabulous products to fill your fridge or stockings. Delivery is available from Halifax to Greenwood when you order online.
The gorgeous hand-beaded designs by Mi’kmaq maker Caitlyn Moore (Motor Vehicle Body Repair ‘18) of Mia’wjl Designs are sure to impress. Her shop is open to custom orders for beadwork, moccasins, leather mittens, ribbon skirts, dreamcatchers, home decor pieces, medicine wheels, medicine bags and quillwork. Do you have someone on your list who needs a reason to relax? Explore Pure Salt Scrubs and Candles by KayLee Oickle (Office Administration ‘10). These natural products with sea salt make a thoughtful gift and can help destress during holiday hoopla.
Kismet Designs in Fisherman’s Cove, Eastern Passage, is Katie Richard’s (Graphic Design ‘08) eclectic shop that features local items along with her own designs. The Maritime-themed tree ornaments and wooden jewelry have us picking out gifts for ourselves!
Worx Industry was founded by Jacob Davies (Electrical Construction and Industrial ‘14) and Cody Gorman (Industrial Mechanical ‘15). Their apparel and accessories have a rugged and simplistic look that is sure to suit those with a more relaxed style. We love the leather coasters for their rustic vibe.
Kale Boucher (Culinary Arts ‘10) is helping home cooks level up their meals with his collection of spices, sauces, and preserves. Coastal Cook House sauces can be found at Kismet Designs in Eastern Passage or ordered through his Facebook page. If you have a griller to buy for, we think the Sweet Heat BBQ sauce would be the perfect treat under the tree.
Clothes with a Cause
Tyra Paul (Business Administration ‘18) created Drip Avenue 902 as an outlet to share her personal story. This Indigenous-owned business sells clothes that not only look stylish, but a portion of the proceeds support mental health and addiction services. The V-neck tee comes in three giftable colours.
The perfect holiday gift for the bearded one in your life. Check out the signature handcrafted beard oil, moustache wax and other great products from Cape Breton Beard Factory, owned and operated by grad Anna McPherson (Public Relations, ’15) and her partner. Can’t decide between a beard oil, shampoo or balm? Buy a custom box set! Products are available online, at their Sydney shop, and in selected stores around Nova Scotia.
