It’s nice to see spring take hold and the earth come to life as we move through April. It’s been an exciting month – NSCC’s Kindness Project set the tone to step back and share what we can. We loved seeing your photos and caring gestures. We also recognize Earth Day this month and are excited to share our latest 25-minute video, along with other updates and offerings.

Are you celebrating Earth Day? Don’t miss the upcoming video in our NSCC 25th Learning Series: How to Create Your Own Outdoor Planters! Learn from alum Nikki Lloyd (Adult Learning Program Level 4 '18) and Cody Whynot (Horticulture and Landscape Technology - Operations '18), and faculty, Rachel Whitney and Michelle Muis (Horticulture Retail Garden Centre ’04 & Horticulture - Greenhouse/Nursery ’03). Gain the skills to create perennial planters that can last all year, including pollinators to help the environment and more! Stay tuned for our third video coming out later this month.

The NSCC Alumni Legacy Award is a $1,000 entrance award given annually to returning alumni or a child/grandchild of an alum. We’re offering 18 awards to full-time students at any of our 14 campuses. Please ensure your alumni connection is registered with the alumni office, which can be done through the NSCC Alumni Connection Form. To apply for the award, complete the required online forms in the award system – make sure to select ‘Yes’ when asked if you’re an NSCC alumni or child/grandchild of an NSCC graduate. For more information or questions, contact the Student Awards Office.

Congratulations Shawn Wilkie (Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management ’02) who was featured in an Atlantic Business Magazine article as the CEO and Co-Founder of Talkatoo, the technology business he founded in 2019. Talkatoo is a dictation software for veterinarians that is driven by artificial intelligence (AI), which dictates and translates conversations in meetings to save time on charting notes.
