NSCC welcomes new Vice President
May 16, 2019 – Media Release
Halifax – President Don Bureaux announced the newest member of Nova Scotia Community College’s (NSCC) Executive Team today (May 16, 2019). Lynn Hartwell will join NSCC as Vice President, Campuses and Communities, effective July 2019.
Ms. Hartwell brings to the role 20 years of progressive leadership experience in the public sector. She currently serves as Deputy Minister, Community Services where she is responsible for the largest direct service delivery department of the provincial government, serving over 100,000 Nova Scotians with more than 1,800 staff province-wide and more than 300 service providers. Ms. Hartwell’s previous roles include Senior Executive Director with the Skills and Learning branch of the Department of Labour and Advanced Education where her responsibilities included the operation of adult learning, apprenticeship, and employment and workplace training programming across the province. Through this work, she developed relationships with a range of stakeholders, including NSCC.
“The Campuses and Communities portfolio is a vitally important one,” says Mr. Bureaux. “It is the nexus where our provincial mission, vision and strategies meet the unique strengths and opportunities of the communities we serve throughout Nova Scotia and beyond. I know Lynn’s professional experience, her personal commitment to the province, and her authentic, inclusive and supportive leadership style will be tremendous assets to NSCC.”
NSCC's Campuses and Communities portfolio enhances campus-community relations, strengthens collaboration between campus and college leaders and streamlines administrative processes across NSCC sites. The leadership team includes 12 principals who support 16 physical locations and eCampus (online programs, courses and services).
NSCC began a national executive search in February following a retirement announcement by current VP, Campuses and Communities, Catherine MacLean. Ms. MacLean will retire in July after an exceptional 31-year career with NSCC.
