NSCC welcomes Province’s addition of College to Student Loan Forgiveness Program

February 27, 2020 – Media Release

Halifax, NS - The addition of eligible Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) graduates to the Province’s Student Loan Forgiveness Program is welcome news, says NSCC VP Academic Anna Burke.

The 2020-21 Nova Scotia budget, tabled on February 25, includes additional funding so that graduates from NSCC are included, along with provincial university graduates.

Burke adds, "We know that one of the biggest hurdles for any student in obtaining a post-secondary education is cost. The inclusion of College grads into the government’s Student Loan Forgiveness Program will go a long way to reducing the financial burden for those eligible for this financial support."

NSCC has an access mandate in its work to support student success and this is another resource to encourage those wanting to further their education to find support they need. It also will encourage more of our graduates to stay, here at home, and help build their communities post-graduation.

The College offers additional supports to assist students with their education – including scholarships and bursaries. Details can be found here.
