Mike Byrne – Academic Candidate
Campus: Pictou Campus
Do you feel a sense of pride when you see an NSCC advertisement in print, on television, or in a movie theatre? How about when you watch graduates walk across the NSCC stage and see the smiles and tears of joy? I do!
As a Related Subjects faculty, I have had the pleasure of working with NSCC students for 8.5 years.
Prior to NSCC, I worked 25 years as a Professional Engineer in manufacturing and construction. That career involved me in building and installing many ‘things’; my NSCC career involves me in building many 'futures'.
I am happily married and have 3 lovely children. My hobbies include photography and playing music.
I believe that the Board of Governors needs input from someone that is in the classroom engaging our learners. My professionalism, integrity, open-mindedness, and interpersonal skills prepare me for this role as your Board of Governors member.
I am passionate about the work we do at NSCC and I ask for your vote so that I can bring that energy to the Board table.
Jennifer Gogan – Academic Candidate
Campus: Cumberland Campus
My name is Jennifer Gogan, and I am a faculty member for the School of Business at Cumberland Campus and with Online Learning. After having taught at Cumberland Campus in the early 90s, I rejoined the College in 2005 on a secondment from Community Services and was thrilled to become a permanent employee in 2007. Since then, I have had the opportunity to fulfill a number of positions including:
- Student Services roles (CSRE and also DRF (interim), ALPC (interim), and a brief term as Manager)
- CCEDP Portfolio Facilitator
- Volunteer on many committees, both locally and provincially, and presently a member of a number of campus committees
Those who know me would describe me as committed to and passionate about my role, whatever it may be. I truly believe in the work we do as a College and am proud to say I am an employee as well as CCEDP alumni. It would be a privilege to be elected to the Board of Governors. Thank you.

Leif Helmer – Academic Candidate
Campus: Lunenburg Campus
I have worked for 7 years with NSCC as a faculty member in Trades & Technology. I've attended several CCEDP, Great Teachers and Adult Educators events with many colleagues over the years and would really appreciate the opportunity to bring a faculty perspective to our board.
I have many years of experience serving on non-profit boards in my community. I am comfortable with the work this leadership entails, and the responsibility that comes with it.
Please contact me with any questions or to provide suggestions. I look forward to representing you as faculty and staff, and kindly ask for your vote.
