Showing off the shipyard
NSCC alum Sean Lewis looks very comfortable sitting at the boardroom table at the Irving Shipyard offices in Halifax. He is settling in nicely as director of communications at Irving Shipbuilding, a job he started in June 2016.
He's responsible for anything from internal communications and engagement with nearly 1,300 employees, to external communications with clients and the community. He is also responsible for developing strategies for both internal and external communications and social media.
Show and tell
To show Nova Scotians just what is happening with the project, Lewis and his team go down to the shipyard weekly and make videos of the ships being built.
"We want people to be able to see the work that we are doing with the Navy," he says. "We're giving people a sense of what's happening inside the big building on the waterfront."
After graduating from St. Francis Xavier University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in human kinetics, Lewis completed the advanced diploma Public Relations program at NSCC in 2006.
He says that both human kinetics and public relations are about making connections with people and that's where his strengths lie.
Lewis credits NSCC for helping him get to where he is today. "It gave me a great foundation," he says.
