A Statement from NSCC President Don Bureaux - Feb 24, 2021

Feb. 24, 2021 – Statement

The College was alerted late yesterday afternoon to an incident in one of our classrooms involving racist language used by a member of our community. We began investigating immediately and that continued today.

We are offering supports through our Student Services team to anyone in the class who was affected and are following up with the class.

Guided by the College’s Code of Conduct and other policies as pertinent to this matter, the individual who used the racist language is no longer with the College.

As you can understand, we cannot provide details on any individuals involved due to privacy legislation.

As a College, while we are continually working to foster an environment that is welcoming and inclusive to our community and others, this incident shows that we have a great deal more work to do and apologize for the harm it has caused.

Our work inside and outside our classrooms is instilled with activities and teachings that highlight the value and importance of diversity, equity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful working and learning environment. While we have immediate actions to take to care for our community, we also have longer term work to continue to strengthen our efforts.
