COVID-19 case identified at NSCC Ivany Campus
Apr. 27, 2021 – Statement
A second member of the NSCC Ivany Campus community notified the campus of a positive COVID-19 test. It is important to note this is a close contact of the individual the College reported yesterday.
The individual was also last on campus on April 21 in the Learning Commons. They have been self-isolating and following the direction of Public Health. There is no additional risk to the campus community. They are aware that they may not return to NSCC until they’ve received advice from Public Health that it is safe to do so. The campus has reached out to both individuals to offer support and well wishes for a full recovery. NSCC cannot share details about the individuals due to privacy legislation.
Anyone considered a close contact of the individual has already received a Nova Scotia Public Health notification. Public Health is only issuing potential exposure notifications in the Central Zone where it recommends people self-isolate and get tested. Ivany Campus has not been identified as an exposure site by Public Health. Ivany Campus will remain open with the existing COVID-19 protocols already in place: masking, distancing and/or extra PPE where that's not possible, frequent sanitizing. Facilities team members are continuing their practice of frequent space cleaning.
Any member of the campus community who is at all concerned is encouraged to get a test as has been promoted by the Province's Chief Medical Officer of Health. Employees, students and community partners should continue to watch for updates through NSCC email, our COVID-19 website, or on social media to ensure they have the latest information.
Ivany Campus will work with Public Health in case there is any guidance that requires further updates. The College encourages everyone to continue to take all precautions advised by the Province – including getting tested even if you have no symptoms – to help protect each other and our communities from COVID-19.
