Prep Checklist

  • Identify your interests and how they might connect to an area of study Do you have a career goal? If yes, what education or training is required? If you're not sure or want to explore your career options, identify things that you like and considerations that are important for your decision (ex. favourite classes, stuff you like to you do outside of school, type of lifestyle you would like to have, etc).
  • Access your allies You don't have to do it all by yourself. Friends, family, teachers, and others can help. Talk to people to get information and advice about your ideas. Share your plans with those who can support and encourage you.
  • Establish the factors you will use to evaluate your options Do you want to live at home or move away? Do you want a large campus or a small one? What about costs and program length? What student services do you require?
  • Develop a short list Once you've considered your interests, make a list of programs that are of interest and start do your research. What do you need to get in – high school courses, marks, volunteer/experience? Plan a visit so you can meet the instructors, current students and tour the campus.
  • Apply High school students can apply to NSCC as early as Grade 11. Be sure to include all documentation that is required for your application. Once you've applied, start to look for student awards or scholarships that are available.
