COMP 1102 - Operating Systems is an introductory course. Briefly, the course covers the following topics:
Describe issues related to computer usage in business and society
- Describe ergonomic concepts
- Discuss social issues
- Identify security controls
- Discuss crime
- Discuss viruses
- Discuss privacy and ethics
Correctly identify the components of a computer system commonly used in today's modern office environment to allow for basic effective technical communication
- Identify components such as:
- Motherboard
- System clock
- CPU
- Expansion cards and slots
- Memory
- Mice
- Keyboards
- Monitors
- Ports and cables
- Printers
- Storage devices
- Other input/output devices and network components (server, wired and wireless connections, etc.)
- NSCC network
- My NSCC
Use appropriate Windows operating system commands to continually maintain computer efficiency
- Become familiar with the functions of such systems commands as:
- Recycle Bin
- Minimize, Maximize, Close
- Screensaver
- Desktop, icon creation, creating shortcuts
- Defragmentation
- Virus scans
- Windows automatic updates
- Disc clean up
- Utilising and changing Toolbars
Manage files and folders to organize a structured electronic filing system
- Understand and use functions such as:

- Understand copyright aspects of using Internet resources
