Articulation Agreements

The NSCC is in discussion with a number of other post-secondary institutions in the Province and beyond about the transfer of individual and block credits. Our goal is to develop for our students mutually beneficial agreements which respect learning and the mastery of learning outcomes as portable educational building blocks appropriate to adult learners in a Portfolio College. This information is available for download or through Student Services at your campus.

Transfer of Credit to the NSCC

Students who have successfully completed the equivalent of a NSCC course at another post-secondary institution may apply for Transfer Credit. It is solely the student's responsibility to provide appropriate documentation from the other institution(s) to support the application for transfer credit. A demonstration of competency may also be required.

If you are interested in applying for transfer credits, you must submit your application to Student Services at your campus before August 20, 2011. Transfer credits will appear on your transcript as "CR."

NSCC Transcripts

Official transcripts will be sent directly to a designated employer or institution. Transcripts given directly to you will be marked "Unofficial" and may not be accepted as a true record by the receiving agency. The transcript is available through Student Services at your campus.

Transfer of NSCC Credits to a University

The NSCC has articulation agreements with a number of universities whereby graduates of specific NSCC programs are awarded credit for individual courses completed at the College. For example, credit for the Practical Nursing program awarded towards Nursing degree programs at Nova Scotia universities. The Dalhousie University website lists numerous NSCC courses, both past and current, for which transfer credit is given. For further information, contact your Student Services Office.

Transfer of Credits to and From CBU

NSCC and the Cape Breton University have a transfer agreement whereby students transferring between the University and the College can receive block credit if the transfer is between "like" programs, i.e. Business and Business, Technology and Technology, and Human Services and Community Services. Through this agreement, graduates of NSCC programs might enter a like CBU program and be eligible to complete a bachelor's degree within 15 months to two years. Similarly, graduates of CBU bachelor's programs might enter a like NSCC program at the second or third level, depending on prerequisites. Check with Student Services at your campus for more details on what credits apply.

Articulation With Memorial University

Another example of inter-institutional co-operation is the articulation of the NSCC's nationally accredited diploma of technology programs with Memorial University's Bachelor of Technology Program to provide access to the degree program for College graduates who meet the appropriate National Standard admission requirements defined by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB).

Memorial's Bachelor of Technology program is a full length undergraduate degree program consisting of a technical component and a component intended to provide a broad societal context for the technology, as well as business related skills and knowledge. Memorial University recognizes that those NSCC technology diploma programs that meet CTAB standards satisfy the requirements of the technical component. Graduates of such programs may meet the requirements for the Degree by successfully completing twelve courses (36 credit hours) offered by a number of the Memorial's faculties and schools, together with a technical project and report. The degree program is available through distance delivery, with all of the required courses, together with a number of elective choices, delivered using Internet-based technology.
