The Photo Business II This course will bring the knowledge and insight gained over the last two years into focus as it relates to the student. Time will be spent on ascertaining the learner's interest in particular focus areas and in researching the opportunities available in those areas. Review of business and entrepreneurship skills will be followed by an examination of practical business and life skills. Significant focus will be given to finalizing the learner’s Business Plan for the three to five years following graduation.

Intro to Graphic Design This course introduces the learner to graphic design. It covers the basic building blocks required to produce visual communication for any medium. It also covers the importance of identifying and targeting specific audiences. The learner will cover a variety of topics including typography, colour, image, layout and hierarchy. Students will also consider the importance of consistency and will develop critical, analytical and aesthetic skills.

History of Photography This course introduces the learner to some of the major photographic developments from the early 1800’s to present day. It focuses on the technical developments, scientific discoveries, aesthetic styles and the individuals who influenced the advancement of photography. The evolution is put into context by addressing the socioeconomic climate that impacted major events.

Light and Lighting I Light in general, along with supplemental lighting, is the basis of all photography. Natural light, selected light and artificial light are used by all photographers to achieve a desired effect. Knowing how to use these types of light is the foundation of this course. Through a series of assignments students will get to experiment with a variety of light and lighting, getting them to a point where they can use and manipulate any type of lighting to their advantage.

Emerging Technologies This course introduces the learner to new and emerging technologies that are relevant to the commercial photo industry through exploration of current technological innovations. Learners will be encouraged to explore communication and collaboration tools that may be used in the photography career path, through practical application and theory. The emphasis will be on discovering, utilizing and demonstrating these technologies.
As well, this course will highlight professional standards regarding using these technologies effectively and lay some foundation skills for remaining current in the industry.
In keeping with the nature of the course content and the application of this content in the photo industry, at least half of the course material, class discussion and assignment work, will take place online. Learners will use online tools and resources as they are used in industry, in addition to traditional classroom practice.

Light and Lighting II Students are introduced to a professional studio lighting equipment set-up. They will be able to carry out professional lighting assignments, such as basic Butterfly, Loop, Rembrandt, Split, Rim, and Contra Jour set-ups, along with High-Key, Low-Key, and Short and Broad lighting set-ups. Students will have access to a professional lighting studio for the remainder of the year to enable them to complete lighting assignments.
