Do you value healthy living and well-being? Are you interested in exploring the values and role of Mi'kmaw knowledge in living one's life in balance and harmony? This unique program allows students to focus on the richness and power of indigenous knowledge and the roles they play in the healing and helping process.
The Mi'kmaw Health & Wellness program empowers you to develop the skills and abilities to identify and pursue your vision of life as well as promote health and wellbeing within your community. The program gives you the opportunity to gain a greater respect and understanding of Mi'kmaq life in Nova Scotia.
You develop the skills necessary to explore challenging yet rewarding careers in Human Services. The program provides you with the practical skills and knowledge in the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical aspects of one's self as well as the skills and knowledge specific to the 'helping professions'. The program helps you understand First Nations people in Canada and explores specific health and social service issues in First Nations communities and potential strategies for supporting healthy community life.

- High School Graduation Diploma or equivalent.
- Learn within a multidisciplinary team both in the classroom and the community.
- Program faculty and facilitators include experienced Mi'kmaw teachers and speakers as well as Elders from local Mi'kmaw communities.
- Work experience and field placements are provided to enhance the knowledge and skills you develop in the program.
- Graduates of this program can advance to complete a Human Services Diploma (Open Concentration) with some credits towards their first year of study.
- Graduates of this program may find opportunities for employment within Mi'kmaq communities. Employment opportunities include positions with various Mi'kmaw supports and services such as family support and resource centres as well as independent living and respite care programs.
- Additional employment opportunities exist for graduates who combine this program with the Human Services Diploma program – opportunities may include employment within agencies licensed by the Department of Community Services (group homes, Adult Residential Centres, Regional Rehabilitation Centres and Supported Employment programs). There are also employment opportunities in educational facilities and transition homes.
- Strait Area Campus – Courses for the Strait Area Campus session take place in Wagmatcook.
- Travel – Some travel is required as the program is offered in a combined campus/community delivery format. Additional costs include meals and accommodation.
- Students are required to provide their own transportation to community sites and field placements.
